Day 1: Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House Tour
The Day's Itinerary - The day's itinerary is all about exploring the famous NZ landmarks and sights to see. Checking out the national bird - Kiwis and the very famous glowworm caves of Waitomo.
- 08:30 - Pick up from hotel and begin the 2.5 hour drive from Auckland to the Waitomo Caves. Along the way, take stock of the beauty of NZ's longest river - Waikato River.
- Arrive in the Waitomo caves and together with your guide explore and go caving. The travel is via foot and boat for about 45 minutes. Here you will see the spectacular and unique glowworms lighting up, limestone shafts, stalactites, and other caverns.
- Lunch at local cafe.
- After lunch proceed to the Otorohanga Kiwi House.
- Visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House and learn more about NZ’s national bird - their life cycle and habits. Here you can also see the tuatara - these are NZ's prehistoric native reptiles.
- 17:30 - After the visit at Kiwi House, you will be driven and dropped off at your hotel.
